This section will detail some of the history of the Sheriff’s Department of Evans County.

From its founding in 1914, Evans County Sheriff’s Office has continually been a place of honor.  From the first Sheriff, T. Walton Rogers to the current Sheriff, Randall H. Tippins, the office of the Sheriff and the County it serves is steeped in history, legacy with a rich Southern charm.  Many great lawmen and women have served the Sheriffs for 100 years and their friends and families have loved the community for generations.

Evans County is one of the first states to have a female sheriff, in 1940, Evans County elected Josie Mae Rogers as not only the first Sheriff of Evans County, but also the first female Sheriff in the State of Georgia. Presently, the staff and officers of the Evans County Sheriff’s Office, under the direction of Sheriff Randall H. Tippins, is one of the top rural law enforcement agencies in the Nation and has been recognized by local, state and federal agencies for their best practices and ingenuity.
